Acting For Young People’s showcase program produces eight full and four short performances each year, impacting over 450 students each year. These shows help young actors learn audition skills, participate in the rehearsal process, learn dramatic structure, learn voice and movement techniques, and gain confidence while performing for an audience.

AFYP and Mason Community Arts Academy have joined forces to bring you the absolute best in theater, music, and art instruction!

SPRING REGISTRATION OPENS TUESDAY, December 3!

AFYP Member Registration Opens: 6:00 p.m.
General Public Registration Opens: 8:00 p.m.

In this 60-minute class, our youngest actors are introduced to the building blocks of acting and theater. Great for new and returning actors, this class encourages students to use their imaginations in a fun and safe environment, and gain confidence as they learn the process of putting on a play. In addition to growing through acting training, the cast will have the opportunity to share their work in a final presentation at the end of the session.

Class Time: 9:00am-10:00am

Spring 2025 Dates: Saturdays, February 8-May 17 (no class on Feb. 15, Apr. 12, or Apr. 19)

Performance: Saturday, May 17 at 10:00am

This 90-minute class provides a more advanced option for our growing young actors. The cast will have the opportunity to share their work in a final presentation at the end of the session.  This class builds on the basics introduced in our Mini Actors’ Showcase, concentrating on story-structure, characterization, the creative process, and acting techniques. Our young actors will experience a more realized performance, complete with technical elements.

Our Young Actors’ Showcase is an excellent training ground for our musical showcases! It is a recommended prerequisite for our Musical Showcase program, and we recommend a minimum of two sessions at this level of study.

Class Time: 9:00am-10:30am

Spring 2025 Dates: Saturdays, February 8-May 17 (no class on Feb. 15, Apr. 12, Apr. 19, or May 24)

Performance: Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1

Our Musical Showcase program gives student actors the opportunity to receive top-level training as they work in an ensemble with their peers towards a final performance. The rehearsal process allows students to work with professional directors, actors, and choreographers. This program provides actors with pride of ownership as they develop skills as performers and develop confidence in their off-stage lives.

All students registered for this program will be cast in the show and will strengthen their acting, singing, and dancing skills throughout the process. The show includes roles for new and experienced performers.  Solos, as well as ensemble singing opportunities, are available.
